Organic Sherpa (new!), Organic Cotton, and Polartec 200wt & 100wt are some of our sustainable fabrics.   Nubby Tan Recycled,  ribbed in nut heather organic below.

“When we hand-stretch the organic rib, it becomes a windproof ear-cover for baby!” –  Janne Anderson, designer and owner, JoJoCo Hatmakers of Chicago.

Celebrating over 20 years with our new logo which encompasses this little American company that could – following JoJo, aka Eleonore Jordan Anderson, all grown up working for our Department of Interior, our National Parks, and recently a Fire Fighter stationed at Mount Hood,  Oregon.

Since 1991, we specialize in childrens protectve headwear and ear covers for infants and toddlers in Organic knits and sustainable goods and of course,  polartec and recycled polartec (made from water bottles).  We also offer our caps in 100% midweight pure cottons because of the great colors out there. These colors are being replaced one by one in Organic cotton, when available (my personal goal to you.). The latest is Kaweah organic ( like the Kaweah Basin in Sequoia National Park and nut organic.   All caps are made in Illinois.  All fabric is American made, mostly from Asheville, NC.

Our first baby cap, the Earhart cap is a functional favorite and a best ear-cover.  Hand-stretched while sewn and shaped like a babies head, windproof all the way to size xxl (sometimes fits up to 30m).  Named for Amelia.

We are now offering our wonderful hats direct to you by mail.
My wonderful stores nationwide can’t possible carry all of our colors to you!  Please email for a store near you.  You may not know we carry Peony Organic or Recycled Polartec ribbed in Organic cotton, a great sustainable alternative for a child’s windproof ear-cover.  We have 22 colors in pure cotton, 28 in organic cotton and bamboo and we only use non-pill Malden Mills Polartec & recycled polartec! (see colors and fabrics) Also, the next size for your baby will be available by visiting your favorite childrens shop or our website.
JoJoCo Hatmakers,  just before 1990.
Judy Comstock Baker and I had a children’s shop, Good Night Moon,  opening a week before Eleonore Jordan,  my first was born.  Judy introduced to me,  the characteristics of pure cotton. I became conscience of  just cotton (no modal, no poly, just pure 100% cotton made in a mill) and better, organically grown cotton.  I became a tactile person.  I was hooked.I made JoJo’s first Earhart cap,  when all her store-bought caps no longer fit correctly and she still needed an ear-cover even to go to the mailbox.  We live in windy Chicagoland where the weather changes A L O T.  Jordan had to be outside every day, three times a day.  She had to see trees!   After Age 1, she would grab her Earhart, go to the door,  and say  ”owsi”  (in Jordan speak) “Outside?”  Parents at the shop noted on JoJo’s cap and after 10 months of prototyping sizes Small, Medium, and Large, the Earhart pilot caps were sold to other Chicagoland stores.  Earharts are available in the following sizes:

preemie – read below

xs – 0-3m

(if your baby is already 2m, order a Size Small, go larger)

S – 2m – 6m

M – 5m – 12m

L – 10m 15m

XL – 15m – 18m

XXl – fits up to 30 m in some cases.

All babies are different, so always go a size larger.  Use ‘notes’ and describe a wider forehead, etc.  We welcome as much information as possible.  I really work with the ‘notes’
Preemie is also available,  Order an XS and use ‘notes, say Preemie, weight. etc.’ or email us.
I have made earharts for babies that were 3 lbs.
Earharts  can be found in many shops nationwide and catalogs and now – direct.
How the caps have always been made:
Each cap is hand-stretched at certain comfort spots, then sewn, and then it fits properly.   This cannot be done in a manufacturing scenario.  I tried twice and did not use a single manufactured cap.   A squarish look means it is assembly line made and you will have gaps and the wind will come through.   My caps do not lay flat because of all the shaping going on with our exclusive hand-stretch method.Manufacturers will not make them the way they should be because of their cost efficiency. They would not stop and stretch at certain points around the face and neck.   Our sizing is not an enlarged version of the smaller size.  Our Size small is longer in the back.  The Size Medium is wider all around plus. The size Large accommodates the larger forehead or back of head, because of the baby’s growth, etc.   In 2007,  sizes were re-evaluated and after 17 years, I have adjusted my size Medium, L, XL – larger. This can be my own scientific analysis that babies have larger heads now.   Thank you for visiting our secure website where you can purchase the next size for the next season,  while your baby is growing,  or drop ship your functional organic shower gift if you cannot be at the event.   Dropship our organic canvas lunchbag filled with earharts in successive sizes or send a Rosetopper for coming home!  One of my customers sends hats in advance of her visit with a card!  How thoughtful!
Who we give to…
For years,  I have been inspired by people, and their love for people, or how they take their passion
and not listen to anyone’s advice and they just go for it.
I love how creativity on a finished project can be better and better with practice and devotion.  Take it off the shelf and look at it another way.
You think ‘it’s done’ but with more love and patience, it is even better years later.  I think of artists going back to a painting years later
and redoing it –  or a songwriter singing it again years later and we get to hear it.
But lately, close to me will be a child or person struggling with an abuse or illness and they know they have a tough time to get thru.
They inspire.
We will hear about them, thru our nationwide roster of childrens store owners.   They let us know when there is a child or adult victim of child abuse or more often, cancer.   We dropship a pure organic pull-on directly to the child, teen, or adult whatever color or stripe that pick. I love that they never pick charcoal or black. It is always a bright color!   We have donated over 120 pure organic caps while they heal from chemotherapy and the color to inspire them turning a new corner in their lives.  It is the least we can do.

Thanks for visiting our site and visit us at Twitter and our Facebook page

-  Cheers!   Janne Anderson, Founder & President (below) – keeping it colorful, real, pure & windproof. and keeping it made in the USA.
